A group of year 12 students decided to put their marketing skills to good use to highlight the talent we have at the college this summer.
The students, who are studying a BTEC in Business, wanted to develop their skills in a more entrepreneurial way and decided to organise a school talent show based on the popular TV show, Britain’s Got Talent. Their brief was to develop a marketing campaign to promote the school and showcase our most talented students as part of their Creative Product Promotion assignment. The students used the opportunity to work collaboratively with the Performing Arts department and organised 2 shows of live auditions.
Acts ranged from solo singers to groups, dancers to contortionists, who all competed in front of a live audience and four judges for a place in the finals. Not content with an inhouse judging panel for the final, they used their networking skills and secured a celebrity judging panel starring former Welsh international rugby player Morgan Stoddart; local radio presenter Mark Andrews from GTFM and star of the current BBC Three hit The Call Centre, Hayley Pearce the Tea Lady.
To promote the event even further, organiser Dewi Harries and presenter Ellis Powell took part in a live radio interview with GTFM, explaining the reasons behind the event. The final was a hugely successful sell-out and the atmosphere on the night was electric with the audience getting behind their favourite acts. The students that were involved both on and off stage were a credit to the school and all gave one hundred per cent. The judges came to a decision that the overall winner was Ebony Denton with her performance of “To Dream a Dream”
The prize, kindly organised by GTFM included a tour of the studio, live on-air interview and the opportunity to perform live at their tour later in the year -a fantastic opportunity for our rising star
A big thank you to all those who supported the show, to all contestants and the year 12 Business class for organising the event.
A special thanks to year 12’s Dewi Harries and Sophie Palmer who went above and beyond what was expected to put on an incredible s
