Students at Tonypandy Community College have beaten their record GCSE results with another exceptional set of exam outcomes.

IMG_1151In 2015 the College achieved 49%. This year a further 2% increase has been achieved to 51%.

Staff, parents and governors are joining in the celebrations at the Rhondda college which has increased its results in all key indicators achieving 52% at Level 2+.

Results remained consistently high across the board with 95% achieving A*- G grades and an impressive 82% gained A*- C five subjects.

Headteacher Helen O’Sullivan, who retires at the end of this academic year, said: “The College has achieved the highest grades ever and we are immensely proud of all our students 51% at Level 2+ is the highest ever achieved at the College.

“The staff, students and parents must be congratulated on their sustained hard work over the year and their full engagement in a range of additional activities provided by the College.

“We would like to express our appreciation to the Schools Challenge Cymru initiative whose investment allowed us to sustain and recruit staff which ultimately has supported these excellent results.

“These results must be celebrated in context with more changes in education provision, higher expectations and examinations becoming more demanding and challenging than ever.

“Our GCSE results are testament to the exceptionally hard work of the students and the excellent provision provided by staff across all subjects.”
