Tonypandy student Eleri Evans is a Welsh techno champion – and that’s official!

The Tonypandy Community College student beat off all opposition to win the Welsh Champioship of the Microsoft Powerpoint.

The Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship presented by Certiport, Inc. is a global competition that tests students’ skills on Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Now the teenager has her sights firmly set on becoming a UK champion and attending the World Finals in California later this year which has prize money of around £4,000.

Eleri beat university students from Cardiff Metropolitan and Cardiff Vale College to achieve her incredible goal.

But the next step will be to compete against a representative from Scotland, Northern Ireland and England at the Microsoft Campus in Reading.

Headteacher of Tonypandy Community College Nathan Prygodzicz said: “We are incredibly proud of the achievements of Eleri in becoming the Welsh champion of Microsoft Powerpoint.

“The College prides itself in offering excellent IT training with first-class tutors and this has obviously reflected in the success of students like Eleri.

“We wish her well in the future as she takes on opponents from the home nations at the UK Championships shortly.”

Along with fellow Tonypandy students Elysia Evans and Liam Tranter, Eleri competed against 30 other students for the Welsh title.

The trio were also awarded second place in the Minecraft Activity which they entered as a team.
