Students from Yr7 took part in an “Environmental” themed day at the end of the last school term. Each of the six groups looked at a different environmental impacts from everyday life. As much of the day as possible was spent outside making the most of the gloriously sunshine.
Time was spent by each group in the College organic allotment where a variety of fruit and vegetables were planted. The College site was explored for bugs and wild flowers with one group creating beautiful hanging baskets, which are now proudly on show at the front of the school. Some very colourful bird house were made to encourage more birds into our wooded area.
Once back indoors students were amazed at the number of food miles accumulated by some very familiar fruit and vegetables. At the end of the day students gave some excellent presentations on their day, the fruit and vegetable tasters proving very popular, before listening to an environmental themed song composed and performed by students.
The on going development of the College site has been made possible by the support of the County Side of Wales, Awards for All and Co-op grants.
