Pictured are Tonypandy Community College Year 10 Rugby team. Comments of Mr Owen- ‘For a first showing there were lots of positives to take out of this tournament. The boys showed me they can score tries and create chances, playing some attractive Rugby in the process. Unfortunately for us our line speed was slightly slower than one would expect and we were punished against better opposition.
We were placed in a tough pool firstly with Ysgol Gyfun Cymer Rhondda and Treorchy Comprehensive respectively. Although the first game against Cymer ended 25-5, there was an outstanding individual try from wing Cori Price who ran in from his own 22yard line to bring the game to 15-5 but the eventual finalists were too strong though the attempts of Ton captain Josh Shepard to spoil the party didn’t go un-noticed.
The second game against Treorchy was a high scoring affair and the use of the boot form Ieuan Seldon enabled us to pin the opposition back at various phases of the game leading to another Cori Price try in the corner who was once again quickest to the bounce denying the opposition winger. The tough tackling of Thomas Baker in the second game earned him the man of the match award and his work rate provided Ton a second Try releasing the pacey Cori Price to bring the game to a five point deficit at half time. Eventually Treorchy got themselves back in the game which ended 30-10.
Big thanks to all of the Year 9 boys who stepped up to help out the year 10 boys.’
