In 2015 Tonypandy Community College held a KS3 general election and some of you will remember the success of the Liberal Democrats party at the college. The students involved were invited to visit the House of Lords by Lord Davies of Abersoch himself and on Wednesday 24th February, eight year 10’s, accompanied by three very lucky staff, journeyed up to the big city for a day of sightseeing, shopping and policy making!
Lord Davies of Abersoch was very kind to give us a fantastic tour around the magnificent Houses of Parliament, pausing for a splendid afternoon tea in the Peers’ Dining Room.
The architecture of the buildings was astonishing, we had to be pre-warned not to gasp when we entered the debating chamber as it was literally breath taking! The whole experience was one we shall never forget, everyone inside was so friendly and welcoming.
Some of the many key moments were the real-life debate we had in the “Moses Room” of the House of Lords, standing where Nelson Mandela addressed both Houses of Parliament back in 1996, and trying “the best scones in the world”.
We survived the underground and rush hour in London, and our fantastic driver Pip had us all home safe and sound by 11pm!
