Introducing our Yr7 Progress Manager

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the Year 6/7 Progress Manager. My role includes overseeing students’ progress and well-being through the transition from Year 6 into Year 7 and throughout students’ first year at the College.

I work closely with the cluster primary schools to develop relationships with Year 6 students and I coordinate transition activities for the College. I am the main point of contact for any queries or concerns regarding students’ progress throughout Year 7 or for any information about the transition process.

Over the last 9 years I have taught French and Spanish at the College and was Director of Learning, Languages at the College for 4 years. I started my pastoral role as Progress Manager in September and have thoroughly enjoyed working with Year 7 to date.

Year 7 Pastoral Support Tutor: Miss A. Thomas

Hello all, I am Aimee Thomas and I am very happy to introduce myself to you as the Pastoral Officer for Year 7. I have been here at the College for almost 2 years working as a Learning Coach with students from Year 7 through to Year 11, and I am excited to now embark on this journey in my new role.
I started working within education whilst undertaking my degree in Sociology from Cardiff University, which I graduated from with a First Class Honours, and have continued in this sector ever since. Before starting at Tonypandy I worked in an EOTAS setting (education other than at school) working with pupils with a range of specific barriers and needs. I therefore have a wide-range of experience and skills in working closely with students to identify any barriers to learning, and ensuring that these are met and overcome so that all students have the opportunity to flourish as well-rounded individuals and fulfil their potential. I also greatly value communication and relationships with parents and carers, and will be in regular contact with any concerns or updates. I actively encourage parents to get in touch if they have any questions or worries, or if you would just like to touch base and check-in regarding your child.
Additionally I have undergone extensive training in many areas that will be valuable in supporting our Year 7 students, including Child Protection, Attachment Disorder and Restorative Justice. I look forward to working with students and families over the coming year!

The Team

As a team, we are committed to supporting our students as they settle into the College and ensuring that they make a great start to their secondary education.
We have high expectations of the year group. We will support, encourage and guide all students to reach their full potential both academically and personally. We value the contribution of all of our Year 7 students and as a College we will reward and recognise students for their efforts.
Relationships with parents are also extremely important to us and we look forward to meeting and working with our Year 6 and Year 7 parents throughout the year. We fully believe that communication is the key to our students’ success and we would encourage parents to contact us if there are any questions or concerns at any time.
