Netball players are flying the flag of success at Tonypandy Community College after a first-class season of challenges and triumphs.
The College boasts four excellent teams who play in the Rhondda Schools Netball League organised by Sporting Marvels.
Involving all Rhondda secondary schools, the league continues to go from strength to strength with weekly fixtures taking place throughout both valleys.
Tonypandy Community College’s Senior Academy team has been undefeated this season and came League Winners, setting a very high standard for the Junior Academy to aspire to.
The Year 7 Team 1 has also enjoyed plenty of success, undefeated in the league and winners of the over all league title.
They have also been successful in the tournament by beating Treorchy Comprehensive School team in the finals to become Double Winners of both the League and Tournament.
The Year 7 Team 2 has worked exceptionally well, coming a creditable fourth in the league and narrowly missing out on a semi-finalist place by a goal difference in the tournament.
Ashleigh Bourne was named ‘Player of the League’ as she received the most ‘player of the match’ nominations by her peers throughout the season.
The Year 8/9 Team became runners up in their league competition and missed out on a semi-final place in the tournament by one point. Once again, they trained exceptionally hard to reach such a high standard.
Headteacher of Tonypandy Community College Helen O’Sullivan said, “The standard of play by all four teams has been exceptional this season and our congratulations to each and every one of them for their level of success.
“They are all very talented and we look forward to seeing further opportunities to celebrate their endeavours in the next season.
“I would also like to thank all of their coaches and in particular team manager Nicola Lancaster who helped secure their achievements through sheer dedication and determination.”
