Post 16 Examination Results August 2014

The Headteacher, Governors and staff of Tonypandy Community College would like to congratulate all Post 16 students on their outstanding examination results. Students have once again excelled in Post 16 examinations allowing them to progress into higher education and employment.

Students across all subjects have gained excellent grades and 98% of students have secured places at their first choice institution.  Students will study at Universities across the UK including Liverpool, Reading, and Bath; although Swansea and Cardiff remain favourite choices.

This cohort of talented students have exceeded the College targets for 2014.

63% of students gained the top A* and A grades, this is an increase on last year and above the national trend.

88% of all grades were A* to C.

Alongside their chosen courses students have followed the Welsh Baccalaureate programme. For a third consecutive year results in this very prestigious  qualification were outstanding with 98% of students achieving the  Advanced Level. This is well above the expected national average and will provide students with a valued additional qualification that complements their academic courses.

Mrs Helen O’Sullivan, Headteacher stated that “The results this year are once again testimony to the dedication and hard work of both staff and students. On behalf of the Governors and staff I congratulate students on their commitment and dedication to their studies and wish them every success for their future.”

Mrs Beynon, parent of Nathan, a year 13 student said that she was very proud of her son’s achievement and his scholarship to study Computer Science at Swansea University. All of Mrs Beynon’s four children have attended Tonypandy and she stated that she was “very grateful and appreciative of the support, encouragement and perseverance that the staff had given to her children from the day they started at the College”

Tatum Richards, Head of Post 16 at the College described the year group as “outstanding” and “it is with no surprise that they have achieved these fantastic and well deserved results. I am absolutely delighted with these results and this has come from their hard work and determination.” She joins the Headteacher, Mrs. O’Sullivan in wishing them every success for the future.
