On 11th December 2012, students considered to be potentials to attend ‘Oxbridge’ (Oxford or Cambridge university) were invited to Nantgarw. While the students were there, professionals delivered talks about interviews and how to prepare for the application exams. The pupils also took part in a lateral thinking session to prepare them for what often comes up in the application interviews. This gave them the chance to think quickly on their feet whilst under pressure. Welsh students that have gone to Oxford or Cambridge were also there to chat with the students, and told them about what it was like to leave home and go away to university.

Also this week, the school’s chosen teams in year 12 competed in the dragon’s den final at the Rhondda heritage park. Each team had to present their fundraiser idea to the panel of business people who were looking to choose the best pitch. Both our teams placed joint runner up in the competition and should be very pleased! Congratulations to Hannah Light, Zenyx Griffiths, Rochelle Embling, Kelsey Smith, Dewi Harris, Chris Howard and Sam Lee.

Congratulations also goes to the year 12 performing arts class, who put on a hysterical interpretation of a nativity school play in the Christmas concert. It was a great performance that got everyone into the Christmas spirit. Everyone involved should be very proud!
