  • Key Stage 3

Year 7 is the first year at Tonypandy Community College and is a part of the National Curriculum Key Stage 3.

Tonypandy Community School Prospectus Photography-218Throughout the year, we work hard to see that the lessons we provide for our new students, build on what they developed in Key Stage 2.

Following our extensive transition activity programme with year 5 and 6, students begin year 7 and are placed in mixed ability sets.

For this first half term students will follow a thematic approach that enhances the curriculum and enables students to settle in to secondary education at Tonypandy Community College.

Our Year 7 students follow a broad range of subjects that provide a balanced foundation for Level 2 courses such as GCSE at Key Stage 4.

Support is provided for students with learning difficulties, physical disability or exceptional ability and all students have access to our extensive computer facilities

  • More Able & Talented

The term ‘More Able and Talented’ encompasses a proportion of the school population and is used to describe pupils who require appropriate curriculum structure, enriched and extended opportunities across the curriculum in order to develop their abilities in one or more area

Tonypandy Community School Prospectus Photography-205We support all the learning needs of our students and challenge the more able and talented to go into early entry for examinations and on to universities such as Oxford and Cambridge.

We also pride ourselves on getting the best possible grades for our students through focused academic and pastoral mentoring – ensuring that every child has the opportunity to reach their potential.

More able and talented pupils benefit most in schools where there is a personalised approach to learning and where pupils have more control over how and what they learn.

  • Personal Education

It is important that we help our students cope with growing up in a complex and changing world.

test1Part of this involves helping them adjust to the transition from childhood to adulthood – a time that puts strains on the teenagers themselves as well as their families.

All students throughout the College have dedicated Personal and Social Education (PSE) which focuses on issues such as bullying, drug misuse, smoking and alcohol education, sex education, diversity and equality, active citizenship and the local community, first aid and the world of work.
