An innovative strategy to further improve standards and student engagement has taken place at Tonypandy Community College. Over 300 students have been provided with their own interactive personal tablet computer. Every student in years 10 and 11 has been given the device for the remainder of the time they are at the College. They will be able to surf the internet for research purposes, word process documents and analyse spread sheets as well as use the tablets for email, presentations and as an interactive learning tool through specific applications, our virtual learning environment and other networking avenues. This learning tool will be an integral part of all lessons. The devices can be used in College or at home through any available wireless network.

Deputy Headteacher Mrs Kirsty Retallick, said “We are the first school in RCT to provide such cutting edge technology to such a wide group of students, this innovation will have a significant impact upon all forms of learning across the College and we are delighted that students, staff and parents have embraced the investment with such enthusiasm’.

This exciting innovation coincides with the College achieving the best results in its history, with 84% of students achieving at least 5A*-C, one of the top performers in the authority, this is further complemented with over 98% of students achieving a level 2 ICT qualification in addition to their Key Skills ICT results.”

The Headteacher and Governors are committed to the raising of standard agenda and see ICT as central to students leaning.
