Tonypandy Community College rugby star Teifion Thomas has captained his first international game in Holland.

The 16-year-old from Ely Street, Tonypandy gained his first Welsh Boys Club cap as Captain of the Under 16s team while on tour.

The Year 11 student began his rugby career with Ystrad Rhondda Mini Rugby when he was seven-years-old before joining Penygraig RFC Youth Team.

Teifion said: “The trip to Amsterdam was unforgettable and it was a real honour to captain the team. Even though we lost to Holland by a small margin, we gave a great performance.

“I’m looking forward to gaining further experience next season and want to thank my fellow players and coaches for all their support.”

Next year Teifion will join the WRU Under 19s Team and also play in the East Wales Rugby League.

He is currently undergoing trials with Wales Under 16s Rugby League.

Tonypandy Community College headteacher Nathan Prygodzicz said: “We are very proud of Teifion’s achievements on the field and congratulate him on his first Welsh Boys Club Cap.

“We are looking forward to hearing more about his success in the sport and wish him well in all of his endeavours”
