We have Teach First/University of Wales Trinity St David trainee teachers working at your child’s school. As part of their work, Teach First trainees are asked to complete research work in their field of teaching which contributes to their training and helps them to develop as a classroom teacher. This research falls within their normal classroom practice duties and within the bounds of their professional development. All research is supervised carefully by the university and is in accordance with professional BERA guidelines (https://www.bera.ac.uk/researchers-resources/publications/bera-ethical-guidelines-foreducational-research-2011). Each trainee will also be required to discuss the aim and purpose of their research with senior members of the school leadership team.
If your child’s teacher is undertaking research they will explain the work that they would like to carry out as part of their study and ask your child’s permission to take part in the research. Your child’s participation in this research is entirely voluntary and they are free to withdraw at any time, without giving any reason. If your child does not wish to be part of the study, your child’s information will not be used in any way as part of the research.
Your child’s confidentiality will be respected at all times and whilst information about your child may appear in a final report, this will be anonymous and no identifying references will be made to your child or your child’s school.
If you have any questions about this research or you wish to withdraw your child from any research which may be conducted, please do not hesitate to contact a member of the university Teach First programme team (Sarah Stewart – S.firstname.lastname@example.org).
