On Thursday 13th February the College were lucky enough to have a visit from Techniquest for the day to work with Year 9 students. The idea behind each hour long session was to make Maths relevant to students by applying it to a real life problem. Students had to work in groups to plan a concert and try to make as much profit as possible.

All the concerts were held in welsh castles and students could choose headline bands as well as supporting acts. All the students involved made the most of this opportunity and really got involved with the project. They had to put their mathematical skills to the test by considering and calculating venue areas, tickets sales, outgoing costs and hiring of bands. Students and staff thoroughly enjoyed this ‘hands on’ workshop; competition was strong to gain the highest profit. For a number of students this was a perfect opportunity to showcase their budding entrepreneurial skills!
