The TSI Young Consumers of the Year 2010 Competition held its local qualifying heats at the Llantrisant Leisure Centre on Friday 22nd January.
A team of four students from Tonypandy Community College took part. Leon Jones, Joseph Jones, Danielle Hill and Lauren Thomas, competed in a knockout quiz which tested them on a range of consumer issues. The team beat six other schools from the Rhondda Cynon Taff area, achieving 100% on their answers. The clued-up young consumers will now represent Rhondda Cynon Taff at the All-Wales final held in Llandrindod Wells in March.
They will travel up in the evening and attend a special dinner where the draw for the final will take place. There will also be time to relax and use the facilities at their hotel.
The competition is unique, involving hundreds of schools across England, Scotland and Wales which rise to the challenge to become the nation’s top young consumers.
The competition is designed to educate young people to be aware of their responsibilities as well as their rights, giving them the skills to help make informed decisions when purchasing items on a day-to-day basis, as well as helping prepare for life after school.
